WELCOME TO CEBU, PHILIPPINES
WHERE TO STAY IN CEBU | HOW TO GO TO CEBU |  GETTING AROUND CEBU

The Philippines is an archipelago composed of 3 major group of islands namely: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The Island of Cebu is part of the Visayas group of islands and is under the Central Visayas region. (Cebu Travel Guide)

Cebu (Sugbo) comprises the islands of Bantayan, Malapascua, Camotes, Gibitngil, Sumilon, Mactan, just to name a few.

When you say Cebu, it does not necessary mean Cebu City because to me, when someone says Cebu, I would take it to mean Cebu the province. So it is wrong when you say Alcoy, Cebu City because Alcoy is not part of Cebu City, it is another municipality which is situated in the southeastern part of Cebu. So there goes your confusion.

The provincial seat of Cebu is located in Cebu City along Escario Street, Capitol Site.

DIALECT/DEMONYM Cebuano is both a dialect and a demonym of the people of Cebu. Majority of Cebuanos just like the rest of the Filipino nationals understand English. If you are a local tourist traveling to Cebu expect Cebuanos to converse with you more in English rather than in Tagalog/Filipino. It's a Cebuano thing and I'm sure a lot of my fellow Cebuanos agree with me.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS The major tourist attractions in Cebu Province is around the capital city of Cebu, the Queen City of the South. The tour can be done in less than an hour

If you intend to stay in Cebu for a longer period of time, the beautiful beaches are situated in the far south and in the far north. Some of my favorite beaches in Cebu are Plantation Bay, Sagastrand Beach and Shalala Beach in Lapu-Lapu City, beaches in Sta Fe, Bantayan Island, Malapascua Island, Maravilla Beach in Tabuelan, Lambug Beach in Badian, Tingko Beach in Alcoy and Basdaku Beach in Moalboal, etc. I have not been to all of the beautiful beaches in Cebu but you will certainly love the aforementioned beaches. Also, do not miss out Camotes Islands, one of the most popular beach destinations in Cebu. I also love the beach there, check out Santiago Bay, Mangodlong Rock and Mangodlong Paradise. If you want to chase waterfalls, go check out, Cambais Falls in Alegria, Aguinid Falls, Binalayan Falls, Dau Falls in Samboan, Inambakan Falls in Ginatilan and Kawasan Falls in Badian, just to name a few. Most canyoning/canyoneering spots can be found in the southern towns of Cebu

Bantayan Island. Sta Fe is home to some of the best beaches in Cebu. It is situated in the norternmost part of Cebu in Bantayan Island

FESTIVAL
The most popular festival in Cebu is the Sinulog Festival held every third Sunday of January in Cebu City, Cebu but most Cebuanos celebrate it province-wide. This is when Cebu City is flocked by many local and foreign tourists from all around the world.

CURRENCY
The currency we used in the Philippines is Philippine Peso but unlike in Cambodia, most establishments here do not accept your currency as a mode of payment. You need to exchange your currency to Philippine Peso. One US Dollar is equivalent to almost Fifty Philippine Pesos.

MONEY CHANGERS
You can find money changers aplenty anywhere in Cebu. You can find one at Mactan Cebu International Airpot. If you stayed in Downtown Cebu City, go to Metro Gaisano and Colonnade Mall. If you stayed in Uptown Cebu City, go to Robinsons Cybergate or if you are near Mango Avenue, there is a money changer near STC (St Theresa's College). You can also have your currency exchanged to Philippine Peso at SM City Cebu, Ayala Center Cebu and any major shopping malls in Cebu

ATM MACHINES/MAJOR BANKS
You can find several ATM machines in Cebu. You can find some at Mactan Cebu International Airport and at any malls in Cebu. You can also find some onsite spread provincewide. Major banks here are Metrobank, PNB, BDO, BPI, Landbank, Security Bank, China Bank, DBP, RCBC, UCPB and UnionBank.
