Santa Fe - Gateway to Bantayan Island, Cebu

Bantayan Island, Cebu, Philippines

Bantayan Island is composed of three (3) municipalities, namely Santa Fe, Madridejos and Bantayan.

The beach in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island is my favorite beach destination here, so far. I have yet to visit Malapascua Island and Camotes Islands. Santa Fe is home to some of the best beaches in Cebu, Philippines and is the gateway to Bantayan Island. It is located in the northernmost part of Cebu and can be reached by bus, taxi or car. Travel time is between 3 to 4 hours from Cebu City.

HOW TO GET TO SANTA FE, BANTAYAN ISLAND

By Bus
Go to North Bus Terminal (you can go there as early as 5:00 am or even earlier) in Subangdaku, Mandaue City and ride a bus going to Hagnaya Port. At the port, purchase a ticket going to Santa Fe. The fare is 180 pesos (May 2015).

By Car
If you're from Cebu or if you have rented a car in Cebu, go straight to Hagnaya Port (taking the northbound route) then once there, park your car nearby. There are ushers that will offer you parking spaces for rent. You can then purchase a ticket for Santa Fe at the port. Fare for the ferry is 180 pesos.

By Taxi
Again, I do not recommend taking a taxi for long distance trip as it will be too costly especially if you are traveling alone but if you are not on a budget, you can get a taxi anywhere. Taxi cabs in Cebu are very accessible. Tell the taxi driver to drop you off at Hagnaya Port then purchase your ticket for Santa Fe.

GETTING AROUND & PLACES TO STAY

Once you get to Santa Fe, hire a tricycle to get you to your accommodation. If you have not booked in advance, you can ask the tricycle driver, he can recommend a place for you.

I have been to Santa Fe twice and intend to go back there someday. The first time I was there was with my former colleagues and the second time was with my family, both times, we stayed at Budyong Beach but you can also check out Kota BeachHoyohoy VillasSta. Fe Beach ClubAnika Island ResortYooneek Beach Resort, Sugar Beach, Bantayan Island Nature Park & Resort and Ogtong Cave Resort (as the name suggest, there is a cave inside the resort). Assuming the owners are still the same for both resorts (Santa Fe Beach Club and Octong Cave Resort), you are free to use the pool of Ogtong Cave Resort if you're a guest of Santa Fe Beach Club. When we went there with my former colleagues, we went straight to the cave and we swam right away at the swimming pool LOL (we stayed at Budyong Beach by the way, not their sister company lol) and because we were many we caught an attention from one of the owners and so he approached us and told us we were not supposed to swim if we were not a guest from their other property but he was lenient enough not to throw us away (lol). He's nice! God bless that guy! Hope we got his name, though.
