Our Northern Cebu Trip for 2 Days and 1 Night - A Month After Typhoon Odette

North Cebu Itinerary - 2 Days 1 Night

Stressed and drained by the unexpected damaging effects of super Typhoon Odette (Rai), I and my sister and her family embarked on an unplanned Northern Cebu trip, exactly a month after. After a quick chat with my sister on Facebook Messenger, we packed our bags, headed to northern Cebu and started our unexpected getaway. Below was our North Cebu Itinerary that time.

SKYLUN RESTAURANT (LILOAN, CEBU)

It was about lunchtime when we headed north, so we stopped by at Skylun Restaurant to have our meal. Skylun Restaurant serves delicious food at affordable prices with indoor and outdoor spaces. They have  live band every Saturday but check out their Facebook page for updates. Skylun Restaurant is located along the road in Poblacion, Liloan, Cebu. We were supposed to stay overnight in a beach resort in Carmen, Cebu but the resort was fully booked, so I invited my sister to head to Medellin and try our luck in Paradizzo Beach Resort. It was nightime when we reached Kawit, Medellin, the place where Paradizzo is located but because it was a weekend, we had no luck, so we tried Seahorse Tourist Inn and Eileen Beach Resort but still with no luck, the resorts were fully booked as well. We then headed to Emelia Hotel and Resort, they had vacancy but because our goal was to be by the beach, we opted to go some place else. The staff at Emelia Hotel were kind enough to suggest us other beach resorts in Kawit Medellin and Bayawan Daanbantayan. They named quite a few, so we then proceeded to look for those, but since it was a weekend and Medellin was imposing maximum hotel occupancy to 70% that day/night, we had no luck, so we decided to just go back home at around 7:00pm or 8:00pm as all were fully booked except for one room vacant in Villa Edar Beach Resort.

VILLA EDAR BEACH RESORT (MEDELLIN, CEBU)

This is such a good find! We initially dropped by here, we instantly liked it here but because our cash on hand that night was quite limited, we tried to check other beach resorts that the staff from Emelia Hotel had suggested, in hopes of finding cheaper room rates but to no avail, as almost all of the beach resorts that we went to and inquired about were fully booked that night. Because ATM machines were nowhere in sight, we decided to go back home, drove over 2 kilometers or so, then suddenly, we decided to go back to Villa Edar (we still have enough cash to pay for an overnight stay for a family room but we intend to stay for 2 nights). We just settled for one night then and budgeted our breakfast the next day. Play the video below to take a tour inside Villa Edar Beach Resort.

QUICK STOP AT DAANBANTAYAN
We checked out early the next day to hopefully buy dried fish at the nearby Daanbantayan Public Market but to no avail. We then headed back to Medellin and visited the ever famous Bamboo Forest.
Trip to Daanbantayan Cebu

BAMBOO FOREST MEDELLIN (LUY-A, MEDELLIN)

After our failed attempt to buy dried fish at the public market in Daanbantayan, we then proceeded to our next destination, Bamboo Forest, one of the fastest growing tourist attractions in northern Cebu. Entrance to the Bamboo Forest is now at Php30 [January 2022]. If you go there, please check out the Prayer Garden and say a prayer for world peace. Here's how to go to Bamboo Forest Medellin.

THE SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF MIRACULOUS MEDAL (BOGO CITY, CEBU)

On our way back home, we made a stop at The Shrine of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal in Bogo City. I had been to and from northern Cebu, passing by this shrine multiple times but it was my first time to ever step foot there. Thanks to my sis and bro-in-law of JCK Designs, they came up with a brilliant idea to say a rosary on our way up. If you are tired and just wanted to drop by there and light a candle, you can use the road beside the subdivision right before the corner heading to the shrine (if you are coming from Cebu City). Here's how we climb The Shrine of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal when we went there last January (2022)
TYPHOON ODETTE
Typhoon Odette (Typhoon Rai) was probably the most destructive typhoon to ever hit Cebu that the aftermath was such a headache. We had no electricity, no internet connection, no network signals, no water supply, almost everything was very inconvenient. Our loved ones could have been very worried during those times as none of us can be contacted. It was almost a month before our electricity was restored but our water supply had to wait as energization came in batches. This boat below was in Compostela that ran aground during the catastrophic Typhoon Odette. It was taken a month after the typhoon  (January 16, 2022), on our way to northern Cebu. Some of the houses and beach resorts in the coastal towns in northern Cebu were damaged, erased and reduced to pieces. I believe the southern Cebu towns suffered the most as I have watched and heard in the news that some of the main roads there were damaged and unpassable. How about you? How did you survive the storm and where did you go a month after to destress? Would love to hear your experience.
