Villa Budlot and Taginis Falls - Moalboal, Cebu

Have you been to Moalboal Cebu? Aside from Malapascua Island, Moalboal is one of the top destinations for diving enthusiasts (visit Pescador Island) and home to some of the best beaches in Cebu, Philippines, check out Basdaku and Panagsama. Moalboal is located in the southwestern part of Cebu. Travel time is 2.5 hours to 3 hours by bus depending on traffic. (Update 2/20/21 - this is no longer open to the public)

OFF THE BEATEN TRACK - VILLA BUDLOT

Moalboal is known for its white sand beaches and one of the most popular beach destinations in Cebu. Last February, we embarked on an off the beaten Moalboal itinerary (instead), we went to Villa Budlot and Taginis Spring which is situated in the mountainous barangay of Bala. If you want to commune with nature, this is the perfect place for you.

Thanks to my younger sister and brother-in-law for bringing us there. The place is far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Such a perfect place to relax, unwind and have quality time with each other. There is no wifi there and the cellphone signal is fluctuating and almost impossible, but you can play catch up. The good thing is, it's a perfect place to disconnect to connect, giving you more time to bond and spend quality time with each other.

If you love singing there is a videoke machine there that is just 2 for 5 pesos.

WHAT TO BRING

It is advisable to bring food and water but there is a store there. If you don't want to bring food, order it an hour in advance. There is no corkage. You can also cook there.

TAGINIS FALLS/BUDLOT FALLS

Taginis Falls is a waterfall nearby Villa Budlot, someone from the villa will guide you how to get there, it's very near from the resort but if you've been to Kawasan Falls or some other falls in the south, don't expect too much. (Watch video above). If you want, you can also swim at the bottom of the villa, there's a small waterfall there.

HOW TO GET THERE

Option 1: Go to South Bus Terminal and ride a bus going to Bato via Barili then ask to be dropped at Gaisano Grand Mall Moalboal then hire a tricycle there or a motorbike (habal habal) then tell the driver to bring you to Sitio Budlot (Villa Budlot and Taginis Spring). Fare for habal habal varies so negotiate in advance starting at 25 pesos but you will most likely pay 50 pesos (one way) or more. Travel time from Gaisano Grand Mall Moalboal to Villa Budlot is 15-20 minutes. For bus schedule going to Moalboal - click here or call South Bus Terminal at 253-3830 or 2534119.

Option 2: Go there by a private vehicle and once you reached Gaisano Grand Mall Moalboal, you will see Petron gas station, use that small street next to Petron and just follow the signs where it says Budlot, it should get you there. Expect for an adventure though if you don't have a guide. You know you are in the right direction when you pass by these places/signages: Divine Mercy Memorial Park, Barangay Bugho, Barangay Bala and this signage Sitio Budlot. Alternatively, you can contact the number listed on this Facebook page, 0917 743 8478 (not sure though if the number is still working when you read this).

If you are travelling there from the southeastern part of Cebu (i.e. Sibonga, Alcoy, Oslob), catch a bus on the streets every 20 to 30 minutes or so, depending on traffic. Disembark at Bato Terminal, then ride a bus going to Cebu City via Barili then disembark at Gaisano Grand Mall Moalboal then ride a habal-habal or tricycle and ask the driver to bring you to Villa Budlot.

If you are travelling there from the southwestern part of Cebu (i.e. Dumanjug, Ginatilan, Samboan), catch a bus on the streets every 20 to 30 minutes or so, depending on traffic. Disembark at Gaisano Grand Mall Moalboal then ride a habal-habal or tricycle and ask the driver to bring you to Villa Budlot.

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

Best time to travel from Cebu City to Moalboal is from 5:00am to 7:00am. Best time to travel from Villa Budlot to Cebu City is from 11:00am to 12:00nn.
