The Easy to Find Gatubod Spring Resort - Compostela, Cebu

Gatubod Spring Resort - Basak, Compostela, Cebu

One of Compostela's tourist attractions is Gatubod Spring Resort situated in Barangay Basak, Compostela, Cebu. Just like Villa Budlot in Moalboal, Cebu, the water used in Gatubod Spring comes from nature's spring water. The resort is just 20-25 minutes away from Compostela Public Market.

Gatubod Spring Resort has 2 slides and 2 main swimming pools. This is the first pool near the entrance.

The resort has 2 main swimming pools. There is another one but it is seemingly like a basin of some sort. The first pool is located near the entrance and the other one is about a few stairs up from pool number 1. The resort has also 2 slides.

There are several cottages there, near the 1st pool, 2nd pool and even near the 2 slides.

Fresh from my overnight stay at Estaca Bay, I checked out early in the morning, visited Sr. Santiago Apostol de Compostela Church and after a quick break at the bakeshop beside Compostela Public Market, I chartered a motorbike to Gatubod Spring.

Sr. Santiago Apostol de Compostela Church. This church is seemingly new but it has been there since the 1800s, must be reconstructed.

I think I was excited enough (lol) as I arrived at Gatubod Spring Resort a few minutes prior to their official opening hours. The accommodating staff let me in to wait at the cottage until 8:00am to process my entrance.

The entrance is very near the local road

Best time to get there is on weekdays as it can get so crowded during weekends but if you so decide to go there on a weekend, go there at 8:00am so as to have the first choice of cottage. I got there on a Sunday and people started to pop up at 9:00am onwards.

  1. Ride a jeepney/multi-cab bound (#26) for Compostela at Cebu North Bus Terminal or along the National Highway. Fare varies depending on your point of origin just prepare P20-30. I arrived there from Estaca Bay. Fare was P7
  2. Disembark at Compostela Public Market
  3. From the public market, charter a motorbike (habal-habal) near the bakeshops and tell the driver to bring you to Gatubod Spring Water. Fare is P30/one way.
  • You can also take this route, go to either SM City Cebu or White Gold fronting Queen City and if you are coming from SM City Cebu, go to the van terminal outside and ride a van bound for Danao City, if you are from White Gold, go to the jeepney terminal outside and ride a jeepney bound for Danao City #27 then see steps 2 and 3 above.
  • You can also catch a jeepney bound for Compostela (#26) or Danao City (#27) across SM City Cebu crossing near Sun Gold. Then see steps 2 and 3 above.
  • If you want to use your own vehicle, going there is easy. From Compostela Public Market, a few meters away, you will see a corner on the left going to Virginia Foods, use that road and go straight until you see the signage "Welcome to Basak". A few meters more, you will then see Gatubod Spring on your left, it's along the road, very easy to find, definitely!

Surprisingly, did you know that at 100 meters away before reaching the resort, you can take a shortcut to Cebu City? It is 8 kilometers away from there.
