Bangkok, Thailand!

Have you been to Bangkok, Thailand?

Bangkok was the last leg of our Indochina trip. When we arrived there, most people were still mourning for the death of their king, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Their king is highly revered by locals. When we were there we saw so many people dressed in black, some of them are from other places in Thailand, to pay their last respects for the king.

Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand and is one of the most famous destinations in the world. Bangkok is home to many multinational companies and Thailand is best known for its delicious (spicy) food. Aside from being known notoriously for its red light districts, Bangkok, in contrast is also known for its Buddhist temples.

HOW TO GET THERE

BY AIR
As Bangkok is one of the most popular destinations in the world, most major airlines have a direct flight to and from the city. If your city of origin does not have a direct flight to and from Bangkok, try a connecting flight via your country's capital city. Try these airlines, Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, Air Asia, Jetstar Asia, Tigerair, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, Cambodia Airlines, Vietnam AirlinesMalaysia Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, Korean Air, Japan Airlines, ANA, Vanilla Air, Air India, etc.

BY BUS
As mentioned above, Bangkok was the last leg of our Indochina trip. We arrived there via a Nattakan Direct bus from Siem Reap. You can purchase a ticket via Bookmebus.com. Travel time is more than 8 hours. Please take note that Nattakan direct bus is way higher than the regular bus companies but we used it because it was our first time in Bangkok and we opted for convenience vs the price. Find out how we travel overland from Ho Chi Minh City to Phomn Pehn to Siem Reap to Bangkok in 11 Days .

This is the Nattakan Direct Bus we took from Siem Reap to Bangkok. It's way higher but pretty convenient, it has a toilet inside. You can book online via Bookmebus.com

GETTING AROUND
You can get around Bangkok by tuktuk, taxi or via BTS Skytrain. We didn't get the chance to use the latter. I will certainly use it when I get back.

WHERE TO STAY
There are many places to stay in Bangkok but I can highly recommend At Smile House. They have a very friendly staff, nice accommodation, nice location and the tourist attractions (enumerated below, except for MBK Center and ICONSIAM) are just a walking distance from the property and 7 Eleven is just a few steps away. Aside from that, if you are too lazy to walk your way to Khaosan Road, you can relax and unwind at their bar, they have a live band and a pool table. You can book your accommodation online via agoda.com, booking.com, trivago.com or any other booking websites.

PAD THAI
Pad Thai shrimp
When in Bangkok or Thailand for that matter, Pad Thai is a must try. Learnt it from Mark Wiens of Migrationology.com, one of my favorite travel/food bloggers. You can find this aplenty in Khao San Road. (50 Baht). Thai Food has always been my favorite food and being there tasting them is an affirmation. Glad there are Thai restaurants in Cebu.

We arrived in Bangkok from Siem Reap via Mo Chit  BusTerminal and this taxi driver approached us there at the terminal. When you see him there, hire him, he's a nice guy but he doesn't understand English, just communicate with a smile (lol) and give him your hotel's address and you're good!
