Stations of the Cross' Sites in Cebu that you may not know about

Stations of the Cross' Sites in Cebu for your Holy Week Pilgrimage

During the lenten season devout Catholics go on a pilgrimage to mimic the passion of the Christ by doing the Way of the Cross or Stations of the Cross, as a sign of sacrifice. Some even go out of their way and do it so literally, take the instance of Ruben Enaje who re-enacts Christ's Crucifixion every Good Friday in San Fernando, Pampanga.

Stations of the Cross at Mt. Calvary Carmen Cebu

In Cebu, some of the devout Catholics do their share of sacrifice by going to some of the Stations of the Cross' site usually situated in a hill where paths are rocky and a little uphill. Please see below the famous and not so famous Way of the Cross' sites for your Maundy Thursday and Good Friday itineraries.

MT. CALVARY - Baring, Carmen, Cebu
Mt Calvary is located in Baring, Carmen, Cebu - a rocky uphill path climb to the 14th station. This is my favorite Stations of the Cross in Cebu so far.
Getting there: We went there on a private vehicle, so if I were to commute there, I would take a Carmen/Catmon bound bus at Cebu North Bus Terminal and disembark at Carmen Public Market then charter a motorbike (habal-habal) to take me to Mt. Calvary.

DANAO KALBARYO - Tuburan Sur, Danao City, Cebu
Danao Kalbaryo - is located in Tuburan Sur, Danao City, Cebu. We frequented this place over all other locations. The path to the 14th station is also a rocky uphill climb.
Getting there: We went there on a private vehicle. If I were to commute there, I would take a Danao City bound jeepney in Cebu North Bus Terminal and disembark at Danao Terminal then charter a tricycle to bring me to Danao Kalbaryo.

DURANO FOUNDATION - Danao City, Cebu
The Way of the Cross site in Durano Foundation is just a flat surface, so not so much of a sacrifice except for exposing yourself to the heat of the sun.
Getting there: We went there on a private vehicle. If I were to commute there, I would take a Danao City bound jeepney in Cebu North Bus Terminal and disembark at Danao Terminal and charter a tricycle to bring me to Durano Foundation. Alternatively, you can go there by taking a Carmen/Catmon bound van/bus then disembark at Durano Foundation.

GOOD SHEPHERD - Banawa, Cebu City
Good Shepherd - this is I believe the most famous site to do the Way of the Cross but I have not been there.
Getting there: I have not been there but this is one of the most popular Way of The Cross Sites in Cebu.

Q PARK - Compostela, Cebu
Q Park is another addition to the site that is located in the north of Cebu, aside from the 2 locations in Danao City. Another uphill route to the 14th station, I guess (I have not been there yet)
Getting there: I  have not been to Q Park but I passed by the corner heading to this place when I went to Gatubod Spring Resort. To go there, ride a Compostela bound jeepney at Cebu North Bus Terminal (if available) or along National Highway in Mandaue City and disembark at Compostela Public Market then charter a habal-habal to bring you to Q Park.

TABOR HILL - Talamban, Cebu City
Getting there: OPTION 1. Ride a jeepney heading to Pit-os Talamban and tell the driver that you will embark at a corner heading to Cebu North General Hospital. I believe there is a motorbike there for hire, otherwise, walk your way towards Cebu North General Hospital and ride a motorbike (habalhabal) there and tell the driver you will go to Tabor Hill
OPTION 2: Ride a jeepney heading to Talamban with the sign board 13C, 13B, 62C, 62B then disembark at San Jose Bakeshop then ride a motorbike (habalhabal) and tell the driver to bring you to Tabor Hill
OPTION 3: If you will you go there with your private vehicle, take the road heading to Cebu North General Hospital then immediately at the first corner from the hospital, turn right then turn left after a few meters, you should see a sign board that reads Tabor Hill.

It's Good Friday. Good because 2000 years ago the events of today prove that we matter to God.

Aside from the places mentioned above, some pilgrims do their stations of the cross at their favorite churches and I believe there are several other locations that has a similar uphill setting above that leads to the 14th station.
