5 Stations of the Cross' Sites in Cebu that you may not know about

5 Famous and not so famous Stations of the Cross' Sites in Cebu

During the lenten season devout Catholics go on a pilgrimage to mimic the passion of the Christ by doing the Way of the Cross or Stations of the Cross, as a sign of sacrifice. Some even go out of their way and do it so literally, take the instance of Ruben Enaje who re-enacts Christ's Crucifixion every Good Friday in San Fernando, Pampanga.

In Cebu, some of the devout Catholics do their share of sacrifice by going to some of the Stations of the Cross' site usually situated in a hill where paths are rocky and a little uphill. Please see below the famous and not so famous Way of the Cross' sites for your Maundy Thursday and Good Friday itineraries.

1. MT. CALVARY - Baring, Carmen, Cebu
Mt Calvary is located in Baring, Carmen, Cebu - a rocky uphill path climb to the 14th station. This is my favorite Stations of the Cross in Cebu so far.
Getting there: If I were to commute there, I would take a Danao City bound jeepney at Cebu North Bus Terminal then alight at Danao Terminal, then take any vehicle that will bring me there. So, if you have to go there, ask the locals in Danao Terminal, ask the drivers how to get there, they should know as Carmen is the next town to Danao City.

2. DANAO KALBARYO - Tuburan Sur, Danao City, Cebu
Danao Kalbaryo - is located in Tuburan Sur, Danao City, Cebu. We frequented this place over all other locations. The path to the 14th station is also a rocky uphill climb.
Getting there: If I were to commute there, I would take a Danao City bound jeepney in Cebu North Bus Terminal and disembark at Danao Terminal then take a vehicle that can bring me to the place.

3. DURANO FOUNDATION - Danao City, Cebu
The Stations of the Cross site in Durano Foundation is just a flat surface, so not so much of a sacrifice except for exposing yourself to the heat of the sun.
Getting there: If I were to commute there, I would take a Danao City bound jeepney in Cebu North Bus Terminal and disembark at Danao Terminal. Not sure if the place is very near the city center but you can ask around the locals or the drivers at Danao Terminal.

4.  GOOD SHEPHERD - Banawa, Cebu City
Good Shepherd - this is I believe the most famous site to do the Way of the Cross but I have not been there.
Getting there: I believe the way to get there is to ask around at any hotel you're still staying at or go to Cebu City Hall and ask anyone from there or better yet, hire a taxi that knows the place to bring you to the foot of the hill.

5. Q PARK - Compostela, Cebu
Q Park is another addition to the site that is located in the north of Cebu, aside from the 2 locations in Danao City. Another uphill route to the 14th station, I guess (I have not been there yet)
Getting there: I have not been there but if I have to go there, I would take a Compostela bound jeepney at Cebu North Bus Terminal and alight at Compostela Municipal Hall or Public Market then take a habal-habal to get me there.

It's Good Friday. Good because 2000 years ago the events of today prove that we matter to God.

Aside from the places mentioned above, some pilgrims do their stations of the cross at their favorite churches and I believe there are several other locations that has a similar uphill setting above that leads to the 14th station.
